BIOGRAPHY.

In 2003, Dan Gonyea wanted to give back to the music community that he had gained so much from. He started a small website called The Future Breed, with the tagline “Tomorrow’s Sins, In Your Hands.” It served as a tool to people in the New Hampshire area to find concerts coming to their area. The website also featured a small guide to discovering bands that, at the time, were fairly underground: Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, Thrice, Yellowcard, The Starting Line, Finch, My Chemical Romance, and the like. As those bands got signed to bigger labels, got on larger tours, and began to sell an immense amount of CDs, the focus of The Future Breed was taking a turn towards what other sites were taking such as AbsolutePunk and PunkNews.

CD Reviews and Concert Reviews started in 2004 as a way to expand the coverage of Future Breed. The tagline was dropped, and the “The” cut from the name. Coverage consisted mainly of underground grind and punk bands from New Jersey, California, and New York. The website got incredibly large, with more than 200 bands adding themselves to the roster of Future Breed bands. The website met a demise after a major server crash, and Future Breed was cut short.

A third season was made after Dan began doing concert photography in June of 2005. With a new “company” called Future Breed Photography made, he shot photos for local metal bands until he landed a spot doing photos for the Vans Warped Tour that summer. He got a photo deal with Fat Wreck Chords to shoot for Against Me! at the Bombshelter in Manchester after Warped Tour. After that, he shot photos for many local bands like Our Last Night, And Then There Were None, and Always And Forever. Bands started requesting him for photos, and soon he had shot photos for bands like Matchbook Romance, Armor For Sleep, Spitalfield, The Acacia Strain, Bury Your Dead, Terror, The Deftones, As I Lay Dying, and more.

As popularity for Future Breed soared, Dan considered his next move. With Boston on the horizon for college, Future Breed would be moved to a larger area with more music, more bands, and more opportunities to expand the site to its full capacity. In May preliminary designs began for what later would become the fourth season of Future Breed. In June orders were made for the new Future Breed camera, a Nikon D50 with detachable SB-600 flash and 18-55mm lens. The new website launched on July 8th, 2006 with more features for bands, easier navigation for all, and a new determination to make things available to the public quickly and with efficiency.

In the fall of 2006, AMP Magazine contacted Dan about doing photos and writing for their magazine. By December, he had interviewed bands like Dashboard Confessional, Underoath, Shai Hulud, Blacklisted, Guns Up!, Street Dogs, and Converge. In November of 2006, Alternative Press’s publisher contacted Dan about doing photography for Alternative Press starting in January of 2007. His first assignment with AP was for an up-and-coming band called Cute Is What We Aim For, and the photo was printed in issue #225. A dream come true.

The long term goals of Future Breed are beyond what it was originally intended. No longer just a source or outlet of the latest happenings, Future Breed will be integrating with those happenings, getting involved with tours, bands, events, and offering more services to the music world including graphic design, press writing, and web programming.
