Interview with Andrew Williams of Every Time I Die in October of 2006.

As part of the World Championship Tour, Every Time I Die has put on one of the most energetic sets of each evening. With a heavy schedule of touring ever since their release of Gutter Phenomenon, they finally plan to go write a new album. Guitarist Andrew Williams spoke with us about ETID’s new DVD Shit Happens, what album would win in an ETID album duke-out, a conflict over the past Warped Tour, insight into the new album, and much more.

The tour’s been going on for about 2 1/2 weeks so far. How has the turnout been?
The tour definitely has been getting huge turnouts. Every show has been great, the kids have been awesome, and everything is going really well. It’s been great. (more…)

Norma Jean

Interview with Cory Brandan of Norma Jean in October of 2006.
Norma Jean has launched themselves at the world. With a new record in hand, they have taken America by storm with the Radio Rebellion tour. With close friends as support on the tour, the first few evenings sold out, and other evenings have come very close. Vocalist Cory Brandan of Norma Jean sat down with me on an evening before a close-to-sold-out show in Massachusetts to discuss their new record Redeemer. Cory also took some insight into the value of the Radio Rebellion bands on today’s music scene.

The Radio Rebellion tour has been underway for a few days now. How has the turnout been, and what are your plans for after it?
Out of the first four shows, almost all of them sold out. We did another sold out show after that, and that brings us to here. This is like the sixth night of the tour. The tour has been way beyond our expectations. We haven’t done a solid, marketed headlining tour like this in like two years. We’ve been blown away by the response, even with the new songs. We couldn’t be happier with how it’s been. (more…)

Converge

Interview with Jake Bannon of Converge in September of 2006.

Four months ago, I had the privilege to experience Converge in a small room in Brockton, Massachusetts with five-hundred other kids. For a band with fifteen years to its name, Converge did not fail to capture everyone there–some experiencing the band for the first time while others showcased as some of the original fans of the band by vocalist Jake Bannon. “I was once a young kid in the hardcore scene, tattooed all over.” That evening Converge played some of the new songs for the first time to the public. Fast-forward through the Sounds Of The Underground tour and recording, and Converge is ready to make the final push towards the new record No Heroes, due out on Epitaph Records in October. Jake took some time out of the tour with Mastodon to speak with AMP about what’s been happening with Converge and what to expect in the months to come.

You are currently on day three of the tour with Mastodon. How has the first couple shows been?
It’s been pretty solid time. It’s a cool line-up with all bands that we respect and listen to. They are all pretty good friends. It’s cool to have a tour with all bands that you actually listen to and are a fan of. The tour’s working well for us, and I think all three bands are excited for it. (more…)

Shai Hulud

Interview with Matt Fox of Shai Hulud in September of 2006.

All Dune references aside, Shai Hulud has been at the forefront of metalcore for the past eleven years. A year ago, after the departure of vocalist Geert Van Der Velde, the band decided to change its name to The Warmth Of Red Blood, and shortly changed it back to Shai Hulud. Now with the announcement that Shai Hulud is a member of Metal Blade, guitarist and original member Matt Fox has nothing but anticipatory feelings as the band steps out once again for a U.S. tour before recording their new album.

What is the band up to currently as Shai Hulud gets ready for the tour with Dead To Fall in the next week?
MATT FOX: We are currently being deloused and attempting to free ourselves from whatever tuberculosis we all contracted in Europe. I’m not sure how we manage to get sick on every tour, but we surely do. Every tour. We’re just resting up, eating our Wheaties, and doing one push up a day to get ready to obliterate with our pals in Dead To Fall. (more…)
