So I just reloaded my computer and lost the FTP information that I need to actually update the code of the site…. so no fancy ‘blackout’ like on every other site today. However, I do want to raise an important issue, one in the hands of every person who owns a website, in regards to SOPA. In November 2011, popular .com registration site GoDaddy came out in support of SOPA. The tech world was baffled by this because this is essentially shooting your own foot. The biproduct of SOPA could very well shut down DNS companies completely, destroying any semblance of the Internet you see today. It came out that GoDaddy lobbied with the government to get a written in clause making them exempt from the terms of SOPA. In other words, every other DNS company would fail except them. The Internet reacted, and GoDaddy lost over 23,000 customers over their opinion on SOPA. Fearing the erosion of their customer base, GoDaddy backtracked on their opinion. Do not let this fool you. GoDaddy is not a supporter of the freedom of information and is only out there for profit. Remove your site from GoDaddy today and invest in a company that supports freedom of information. Thank you, and have a good day.
